Hi Everyone!

I'll start with a little history of me, before I get to my question. I can, honestly say I’ve been obsessing over makeup my entire life. I grew up with four older brothers, and instead of taking the tomboy route, I went down the road of dress up, makeup and all things colorful. I remember locking myself in the bathroom for hours just to play with my mother’s makeup, I’d watch her apply it and be amazed. Thank god for mom! As I got older, I'd notice myself starring at people, and think what I would do to accent their features. 'Hm, if this girl put some mascara on, her eyes would REALLY pop” For my 12th birthday my sister in law bought me Kevin Aucoins Making faces, and I immediately wanted to try all the looks on my friends.

After dropping out of college, I began looking for beauty schools. Most schools made me feel very uncomfortable, maybe it was the amount of estrogen floating around that gave me a bad vibe (I’m used to room full of jocky boys) I questioned if I could even survive in such an environment. Also, all the schools were so expensive, and didn't offer any financial aid...I still held on to my dream, but wasn't sure how it would work out. Then, as if some miracle a beauty school 10 minutes from my house started a program for makeup only. It was a 2-week basic makeup class, for only 500. My teacher wasn't very attentive; she was preoccupied with talking about her husband, and curling her hair. The hardest part for me was applying false eyelashes. I actually cried the first time doing that, because I couldn't get it. And All I wanted was to be good at it! However, I finished (in march) I applied for my Mac pro card, and a few months later a friend of mine who is a photographer let me do his models makeup. In September I had my first PAID makeup job, which was probably the most fabulous thing EVER! Unfortunately, that was the last job I had.

I'd like to work with more photographers. I'd like to do sweet sixteen’s because I think its important to make young girls realize how pretty they are! I'd like to start at a makeup counter in the mall so that I can work on people all day. Eventually I'd like to have a good enough reputation that I can do freelance, and have people call me for jobs! Be my own boss.

Now that you know my life story..Heres why I need YOU! My teacher didn't really cover the business aspects of makeup. She told us to make a business card, and that's pretty much it. So, where do I start? I wonder how I'll compete with makeup artist that have years and years of experience. Do I go to salons and drop off my might as well be blank resume? Is there somewhere I can post an AD?

I have a business card, I have a kit, I'm artistic (after all it is an art) and most importantly I have that place in my heart that we all have that’s reserved for red lipstick, shimmer and making people feel beautiful.

So please any advice. Even if its."Stop whining and put yourself out there" will be appreciated.

Peace and love
